Peter Wilson is Professor of Dentistry and Oral Health and inaugural Head of School of Dentistry and Oral Health, La Trobe University, from January 21st 2008. Visiting Senior Specialist, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, from 1st June 2001. Senior Specialist, Royal Dental Hospital, Melbourne from 1st April 2006. Peter has conducted research almost continuously since 1984, developing thematic approaches in mineralisation of dental tissues, force dissipation in cementation and pressure effects through dentine. He has consistently published theses and papers in the refereed scientific literature (50 papers and 3 theses published to date).

His work has been supported by peer-reviewed funding from the start, with consecutive NHMRC 3 year program grants ($400,000 to date and has received NHMRC support with a PhD training Scholarship (2004-2005).

Professional Society Lectures

Peter also lectures to local ADA groups from time to time, most lately to the Geelong Group on the subject of occlusal registration. He has presented to the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Prosthodontists in Sydney 2004, on research activities and training program direction and has been invited to present a plenary paper on research directions in Melbourne at the 2008 National meeting to be held in Victoria.

Presented to the Australian & New Zealand Head and Neck Society 10th Annual Scientific Meeting in Melbourne in September 2008 on Reconstruction Options for the Mid Face Tumours session and chaired the following panel discussion Peter is a member of the expert panel on water fluoridation for Colac, Castlemaine, Swan Hill, Kerang and Mildura
